November 1997 Frontier photographers began documenting the settling of the American West long before moving pictures came along. They explored the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains, the Tetons, and the special vistas and valleys of Yellowstone before any major trails even existed.

As the years passed, their photos revealed how these unsettled areas were changing due to all of the new people settling the West. Photographers William Henry Jackson, Jack Hillers, and Timothy O'Sullivan all dared to enter territories that were filled with Native Americans who might not welcome their arrival.

Old photographs taken by these men are featured which provide interesting insights into the rural, mountainous areas that people had to cross before reaching their final destinations. ~ Elizabeth Smith, All Movie Guide
