"A uniformly fine cast turns The Fig Tree into a memorable little gem."
New York Times

Based on Katherine Anne Porter's Pulitzer Prize
winning story. Set in rural Texas during the 1900's this drama focuses on a girl coping with her fear of death. Actors: Karron Graves, Teresa Wright, Doris Roberts, William Converse-Roberts. 1987.
This movie is about a young girl and her family. She was only a baby when her mother died, but her irrational
fear of death keeps her from enjoying life. Her father takes her to see her half brother and sister at their farm, in the hopes other children might help her be less afraid. It is a moving story, with excellent morals and
values. This is a movie to enjoy with your family.
The Fig Tree was the opening installment of the 1987-88 season of PBS' Wonderworks series. Set in 1903 Texas, the story concerns Miranda (Karron Graves), an 8-year-old whose mother died when she was very young. Like the most of the rest of her family, Miranda has never come to terms with her mother's death. Only great-aunt Eliza (Doris Roberts), an erstwhile naturalist, seems willing or able to help Miranda on the road to emotional maturity. Based on a short story by Katherine Anne Porter, The Fig Tree premiered October 10, 1987. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
