Learning Friendship & Responsibility
Billy learns friendship and responsibility from a kind hermit who helps him care for an injured hawk.
Billy’s father helps him learn why vigilante justice is never justifiable -- even in 1876 on the rugged frontier. After saving an injured hawk, Billy realizes that taking the creature under his wing will be a challenge. For starters, he'll have to overcome his fear of approaching an "old crazy man" who uses his remote Rocky Mountain homestead as a makeshift hospital for crippled critters.
Before long, Billy discovers that the hermit is a kindhearted man who really can help him heal and train the wounded bird. Unfortunately, the town vigilantes have their own opinion of the old loner, an opinion tainted by rumor and hearsay.
In the gathering storm of lawlessness, Billy’s father is a beacon of justice trying to keep the peace. But will it be enough to turn the tide against vigilante violence?
